Academic & Professional Profile

Barr. Fadimatu Musa is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Law at the College for Legal Studies, Yola, and an accomplished Legal Practitioner with over a decade of experience in legal education, advocacy, and professional practice. She is widely recognized for her commitment to academic excellence, legal scholarship, and the training of competent legal professionals.

She began her legal education by obtaining a Diploma in Law from the College for Legal Studies, Yola, before earning a Bachelor of Laws and Shariah (LL.B & Shariah) from the University of Maiduguri. She was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar after completing the Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) programme at the Nigerian Law School, and later obtained a Master’s Degree in Business and Commercial Law (MBCL) from Bayero University, Kano.

Since joining the College in 2009, Barr. Musa has played a pivotal role in teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and institutional advancement. Her extensive experience in legal practice enables her to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students for successful careers in the legal profession.

Her areas of specialization include Business and Commercial Law, Shariah Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and Legal Practice. She is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a Professional Negotiator and Mediator, and an Associate Chartered Manager. Through her scholarship, leadership, and dedication to professional ethics, Barr. Fadimatu Musa continues to make significant contributions to legal education and the advancement of justice in Nigeria.

Public Law explores the relationship between individuals and the state, including constitutional law, administrative law, and human rights law. Through rigorous coursework and experiential learning opportunities, students gain insight into the legal mechanisms that govern public institutions and uphold democratic principles.

Private Law encompasses the study of relationships between individuals, including contracts, property rights, and torts. This department provides students with a deep understanding of civil law principles and the legal framework governing private interactions. Students learn to navigate legal disputes and advocate for the rights and interests of individuals.

The Commercial Law department is committed to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of commercial transactions, business law, and corporate governance. Through rigorous academic programs and practical experiences, students are prepared to navigate the complexities of commercial law practice and contribute to the growth and sustainability of businesses.

The Sharia and Civil Law department offers a unique perspective on legal studies, integrating principles of Islamic law with civil law traditions. Students engage in comparative legal analysis, exploring the intersections between religious and secular legal systems. The department prepares students to navigate legal issues within diverse cultural and religious contexts.”
